ACCSS Seeking Support for Dual Credit Scholarships

Jul 26, 2022 | Press Releases

The Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB) defines dual credit as a system in which an eligible high school student enrolls in college course(s) and receives credit for the course(s) from both the college and high school. Dual credit courses may be taught on the high school campus by an approved instructor or on the college campus. Dual credit courses include both academic and technical courses. The Blinn College District and the Columbus, Fayetteville, Flatonia, Schulenburg, and Weimar ISD’s recently launched a new partnership designed to increase high school dual credit completion and establish seamless pathways toward postsecondary awards and industry credentials. The Alliance for College and Career Student Success (ACCSS) in South-Central Texas partner schools collaborate to remove barriers that might impact if a student could participate in dual credit. With the support of regional funders and community investors, transportation and cost of fees and tuition will not be a barrier to students enrolling. For this to happen, ACCSS is seeking donations to their ACCSS designated fund at the Fayette Community Foundation. Donations may be made on-line through the link on the donation tab at the ACCSS website, www.myaccss.net, or on their Facebook page @ACCSS5. If preferred, donations may be dropped off in person at the Fayette Community Foundation office in La Grange or the Blinn College – Schulenburg Campus. Fayette Community Foundation is a 501c3, therefore donations are tax deductible. Donors may select specific campus or campuses to benefit or to support the ACCSS program as a whole.

Through ACCSS, students will have the opportunity to choose a pathway and open the door to graduating high school with up to 60 college hours and/or associates degree or certificate(s) that will help them acquire a job in a high demand, high paying field. The pathways they will have to choose from initially include: 42 Texas Core Curriculum, Allied Health/Nursing, Construction & Building Trades, Teaching, and Agri-Business. For more information, please contact Susie Shank, Director, at the Blinn College-Schulenburg Campus at 979-743-5239 or susie.shank@blinn.edu.
