Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA®) Night Provided by Blinn College and ACCSS to Students Enrolled in ACCSS Partner Schools

Nov 28, 2022 | Press Releases

The Alliance for College and Career Student Success (ACCSS) in South-Central Texas partners the Blinn College District with the Columbus, Fayetteville, Flatonia, Schulenburg, and Weimar Independent School Districts. It is the mission of ACCSS to collaborate as a partnership with rural public-school districts and institutions of higher education to provide academic and career resources, guidance and support necessary for students to complete a post-secondary or workforce career credential. These partners work collaboratively to help create a cultural change where all students—with the focus on rural, low-income students—are prepared to take (and complete) dual credit classes, as well as stackable certifications and credentials that align to high demand careers.

In accordance with Texas Education Code (TEC), §28.0256, beginning with students enrolled in 12th grade during the 2021-2022 school year, each student must do one of the following in order to graduate: 1) complete and submit a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) OR 2) students who meet certain conditions may complete an opt out form. Texas became the second state to require this in a bid to boost the number of students receiving financial support for college. All ACCSS partner schools have offered supportive opportunities for students and their families to complete the FAFSA on their individual campuses. ACCSS is offering an additional opportunity for families who perhaps still have questions or haven’t finalized completion of the process. The ACCSS FAFSA Night will be held on Thursday, December 8 from 5 PM – 6:30 PM at Blinn College – Schulenburg Campus in the Liberal Arts Building room #120. A light meal will be provided for participants and attending family members. For more information on this event, students or parents/guardians may call Sarah Nickel, the ACCSS Student Success Coach, at 979-743-5206. General FAFSA information may also be found at https://studentaid.gov/apply-for-aid/fafsa/filling-out/help. For priority consideration, FAFSA applications should be submitted by January 15, 2023. Additional forms may be required. Private and two-year institutions may have different deadlines. Students should check with their financial aid administrator.
